Mercedes-Benz
A name synonymous with prestige and quality, we were delighted when Mercedes-Benz asked us to work on their European logistics centre and headquarters in Milton Keynes.
This exciting brief comprised of a series of projects, including significant window replacements throughout both the buildings, prioritising better thermal efficiency. This aligns with Mercedes-Benz’s drive to lower their carbon emissions, so it was important to them on several fronts.
We installed new cladding to various elevations to enhance the appearance of the somewhat dated 1960s building stock. Our work also included some internal works such as upgrading the toilet facilities and installing new ventilation systems.
The biggest challenge this with project is that we must work around the building’s occupants and activities. All work must be done out of hours and completed before staff return to work. We’ve been working this way on this ongoing project for over four years.
An example of this is the project we completed on three sets of 6m x 2m windows in a second story office space. We had a weekend to replace the windows, face-up the outside and replaster where necessary. We needed to protect all office desks and equipment during the job and ensure a team of cleaners thoroughly cleaned the space once it was completed. When the workers arrived on Monday morning the only thing that they noticed was the new windows, without any mess or inconvenience caused.
The team at Mercedes are very happy with what has been achieved so far. Not only has the project delivered the thermal efficiencies they were seeking, but it has also delivered improvement in lighting and a reduction of solar glare which is much appreciated by the buildings’ occupants.
